           Cape Town

The 3 x 2 meter mural “dignity” was created in March 2022 for the non-profit organization HOPE Cape Town Trust at “The Nex - Indawo Yethu” center in Delft, Cape Town.

“The Nex” is a drop-in center for children and families affected by HIV, social challenges and the associated difficult living conditions. The HOPE Cape Town Trust has set itself the task of offering people from the townships hope, protection and prospects. The focus here is on concrete social support, medical care and further education. For more information, visit: www.hopecapetown.org

The artwork “dignity”, which was created on the medical care building on a voluntary basis, is intended to give people, especially women, who come here with their children full of worry, a feeling of protection and security. For those affected, this means being able to arrive, being cared for and being taken seriously. Regardless of their circumstances and what bad things have happened to them, they arrive in dignity. It is a place of peace, a safe haven.

For Elisabeth Rosche personally and as an artist, the honourable task of designing the wall meant portraying the ethical values and goals of the organization and, in particular, the medical building. It was important to her to capture the emotions it stands for. It is a place of security, peace and protection. For the arriving women, the artwork represents the pride, value and dignity they carry within them. They are the protection for their baby and carry it in their arms full of pride and love. At the same time, they experience the protection they need for themselves. They are heard and treated with dignity. They are DIGNITY.
